Razer's $90 artisan snake keycap wants you to join the 'cult of Razer'

Razer has unveiled its first artisan keycap — the Razer Artisan Keycap Triple-Headed Snake Edition — a resin-cast, hand-painted coil of snakes that'll set you back $90.

The keycap is individually hand-painted and goes through a two-stage quality control process to eliminate dust and bubbles. It's designed for MX-style cross-stem switches, so it should work with most keyboards regardless of brand. Razer is running a signup form for the initial batch on the product page, complete with a neon-green countdown timer. The $90 price tag is buried in noticeably smaller font beneath it.

Artisan keycaps — one-off decorative caps typically placed on a single key as a display piece — have been a niche but dedicated corner of the mechanical keyboard hobby for years, with handmade resin examples regularly fetching high prices from independent makers. Razer stepping into that space with a mass-market product is a notable move, even if $90 is steep by any measure.

The marketing copy is doing a lot of heavy lifting here: Razer describes owning the keycap as "a mark of belonging within the cult of Razer" and calls it "the next step towards the ultimate expression of keyboard customisation" and "a statement of identity." Whether buyers are signing up for the snake or the sermon is anyone's guess.
