Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy premieres Greek-Cypriot track Patera ahead of August 27 launch

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy drops on August 27, and GameSpot has an exclusive first listen of Patera, one of the tracks from the game's Greek-Cypriot score composed by Olivier Deriviere.

Deriviere — known for his work on Assassin's Creed: Black Flag, Streets of Rage 4, South of Midnight, and Dying Light 2 — built the score around protagonist Sophia's journey to Minotaur Island as she searches for clues about her past. To keep the music authentic, he brought in Greek-Cypriot musicians recording in their native language, working with The Amalgamation Choir, a 20-strong ensemble of female vocalists led by Vasiliki Anastasiou. On the track itself, Deriviere told GameSpot: "'Patera,' meaning 'father,' is a deeply introspective song. One of the central themes in Resonance explores the role of fathers, and Sophia faces some profoundly difficult situations. The lyrics and music speak to a strong yet invisible connection with her own father. Vasiliki's performance as the female soloist is incredibly touching and intimate, while the choir provides both emotional and musical support that feels truly essential."

Resonance is a deliberate departure from the previous Plague Tale games — Innocence and Requiem — which were set in medieval France and scored with a very different musical palette. GameSpot's preview noted the game doesn't feel like a Plague Tale title at all, with combat drawing comparisons to Assassin's Creed rather than the stealth-and-survival tone of its predecessors. The shift in setting to ancient Greek-Cypriot mythology clearly extends all the way into the soundtrack.

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy launches August 27 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, and will be available on Game Pass from day one.
