Riftbound Vendetta Exclusive: Ambessa's Overnumbered Legend Revealed

Game Informer has an exclusive first look at the Overnumbered variant for Ambessa's Legend card — Matriarch of War — from Riftbound's upcoming fourth set, Vendetta, which launches July 31 in English and Chinese.

Ambessa's Legend centers on Empower, a new mechanic introduced in Vendetta. The card becomes Empowered when you Empower another card, and you can then spend that Empowered state — along with recycling a Rune and exhausting Ambessa — to ready a unit. That opens up a range of combat tricks: repositioning creatures, chaining exhaust effects, or squeezing extra value out of units mid-fight. The Vendetta set as a whole leans into "enemy" color pairings, matching diametrically opposed color identities and the rival Legends that go with them. Legends in Riftbound define your deck's colors and provide a persistent effect throughout a match.

This Overnumbered variant is card 196/166 in the set — a chase rarity slot — with art by Aliya Chen showing Ambessa in full battle gear. It's a striking piece, and the kind of card that aggressive beatdown players will want to sleeve up just for the art alone. Riftbound is League of Legends' official trading card game, and Vendetta marks its fourth set since launch.
