Shrek, Fiona, and Puss in Boots Join Brawlhalla in Limited-Time Crossover Event

Shrek and friends have crashed into Ubisoft's free-to-play platform fighter Brawlhalla as part of the franchise's 25th anniversary celebrations. The Brawlhalla x Shrek crossover event runs until August 19 and brings three playable characters — Shrek, Fiona, and Puss in Boots — plus Donkey as a battlefield companion.

Each character comes with a distinct moveset. Shrek swings his iconic "Beware of Ogre" sign at enemies, Fiona goes full brawler with fists and feet, and Puss in Boots dishes out damage with a sword and lance. Donkey doesn't fight but reacts to the action on screen, filling the cheerleader role. The event also adds two new maps — Shrek's Swamp and Shrek's Muddy Swamp — and a batch of purchasable cosmetics: a KO effect featuring Mongo the giant gingerbread man, plus emoji skins for Lord Farquaad, Dragon, and Pinocchio.

The crossover is part of a broader Shrek anniversary push happening across games and entertainment in 2025. The original 2001 film — the first movie ever to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature — returned to theaters earlier this year. The four main Shrek films have collectively grossed $3 billion worldwide, not counting the Puss in Boots spin-offs. Shrek 5 is scheduled for Summer 2027, and a standalone Donkey movie is in the works for 2028, with Eddie Murphy returning to voice the character.

Brawlhalla has a long history of high-profile crossover events, so landing the Shrek cast fits right into that pattern. Players have until August 19 to grab the event content before it wraps up.
