Skyrim mod drapes union banners across Tamriel in solidarity with laid-off Bethesda workers

Veteran Skyrim modder Emmi Elianora Junkkari has released a mod called United Front, placing union logos on shields and hanging banners across Skyrim's major cities in solidarity with Bethesda workers hit by Microsoft's mass layoffs. The move coincides with unionised Bethesda staff announcing protest marches scheduled for July 15th.

Junkkari's mod adds shields bearing the logos of OneBGS and Zenimax Workers United, and drapes matching banners across Skyrim's cities. The intent is practical as much as symbolic — players who download it and stream or post screenshots help amplify the unions' message directly to Microsoft. OneBGS, the CWA-linked Bethesda union, has announced its Save Our Devs March, with rallies planned at 12:30PM ET on Wednesday July 15th outside Bethesda offices in Montreal, Rockville (Maryland), Austin, and Dallas. "The company wants us to accept this as a done deal and quietly disappear," the OneBGS organising committee said. "We won't let that happen."

The layoffs are part of Microsoft's broader wave of cuts that have hit Double Fine, Arkane, Undead Labs, Compulsion, and Ninja Theory among others. Bethesda was not spared despite Elder Scrolls 6 being one of Xbox's most anticipated future releases — developers there have already voiced concern that the cuts will cause further delays to the long-awaited RPG. Junkkari is a well-known figure in the Skyrim modding community, best known for her player home mods on Nexus Mods.

"We are the best allies to game devs," Junkkari wrote. "We give our money to these companies and they are afraid of what we can do. If we concentrate our efforts we can make a big, angry sound." She also noted she had worked alongside some of the people laid off this week, calling the situation heartbreaking. United Front is available now on Nexus Mods for Skyrim Special Edition.
