Solo Leveling: Beyond the System movie announced at Anime Expo 2026

Solo Leveling is skipping straight to the big screen before season 3 arrives. Announced at Anime Expo 2026, Solo Leveling: Beyond the System is a full-length theatrical film now in production, picking up directly where season 2 — Arise from the Shadows — left off.

The news was revealed by Sung Jinwoo's English voice actor Aleks Le during Crunchyroll's Anime Expo showcase. Animation is handled by A-1 Pictures — the studio behind Sword Art Online — in collaboration with Aniplex, Netmarble, D&C MEDIA, Kakao Piccoma, and Crunchyroll. No release date was announced, and story details are thin: fans got a concept video, some moody key art, and the English title. Season 3 was not confirmed at the event.

The move makes sense in the current anime landscape. Demon Slayer's latest theatrical release broke U.S. box office records in 2026, and anime films are no longer niche events — they're genuine blockbuster draws. Solo Leveling has built one of the medium's largest fanbases across its two seasons, which aired on Crunchyroll in 2024 and 2025 respectively. The series is based on Chugong's 2016 South Korean web novel, adapted into a webtoon in 2018, and follows Sung Jinwoo — the world's weakest Hunter — as he gains the unique ability to level up without limit. Season 3 had already been expected to land no earlier than 2027 or 2028, so the film fills that gap rather than replacing the next season entirely.

Beyond the System almost certainly isn't the end of the TV series — it's more likely a theatrical bridge while the full season 3 is still in development. No word yet on when either the movie or the next season will actually hit screens.
