Stalker 2 gets its 2.0 update and first story DLC on August 20

GSC Game World has locked in August 20, 2026 as the joint release date for Stalker 2's first major story expansion, Cost of Hope, and its sweeping free 2.0 update. Both land simultaneously on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5.

Cost of Hope puts players back in the boots of Skif, pulled into a new chain of events by a mysterious PDA signal. The expansion runs alongside the main game's story and centres on the escalating conflict between the Zone's two dominant factions — Duty and Freedom — as their fragile peace collapses. GSC Game World promises dozens of hours of content. The 2.0 update, arriving free for all players, upgrades the game from Unreal Engine 5.1 to 5.5.4, bringing new content and improvements the studio says it will detail further in the coming weeks.

Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl launched on PC and Xbox Series X|S in November 2024 after a string of delays, landing on Game Pass at the same time. PS5 players had to wait a full year, getting the game in November 2025. Despite the turbulent road to release, the game hit one million copies sold in just two days and has since surpassed six million players — a strong commercial result for a Ukrainian studio that was developing the game through an active war.

Details on the 2.0 update are still thin, but GSC Game World has signalled more information is coming soon. With Cost of Hope promising dozens of hours and a major engine upgrade arriving alongside it, August 20 is shaping up to be a significant moment for the game's playerbase.
