Stardew Valley hits Magic: The Gathering with a three-drop Secret Lair Superdrop — and fans are already roasting Elliott

Wizards of the Coast announced the Secret Lair x Stardew Valley Superdrop at MagicCon: Amsterdam on July 17, 2026. Three drops go on sale July 27 at 9am PT on the Secret Lair website, with non-foil editions arriving at WPN game stores at a later date.

The Superdrop — officially dubbed The Superdrop of the Moonlight Jellies — breaks into three individual sets: Welcome to Stardew Valley, Life in Pelican Town, and A Flicker in the Deep. Highlights include a Stardew Valley land card with artwork by ConcernedApe himself, a reskinned Wedding Ring card called Mermaid's Pendant, and flavourful renaming of existing cards like Swords to Plowshares, Command Tower as Tower of Rasmodius, and Sword of Forge and Frontier as Galaxy Sword. Bundles range from the Traveling Cart Non-Foil Bundle at $99.97 to the Grandpa Would Be Proud Everything Bundle at $219.99, which includes all three drops in both foil and non-foil. Individual non-foil drops run $29.99–$39.99, foil editions $39.99–$49.99.

Stardew Valley is the latest property to enter Magic's ever-expanding Universe Beyond line, which has previously crossed over with franchises like Monty Python, Dwarf Fortress, and Garfield. ConcernedApe's farm sim has a famously devoted fanbase that has built its own interpretive lore on top of the game's characters — which is exactly why the new card art is causing a stir. Elliott, the beach-dwelling romantic writer and a fan-favourite marriage candidate, appears in ConcernedApe's own Mermaid's Pendant artwork as a square-jawed, broad-shouldered figure rather than the willowy bishonen the community had collectively decided he was. The Stardew Valley subreddit has been merciless, comparing him to Fabio, Matt Smith's character in House of the Dragon, and a Habsburg. Penny's ringlets and a noticeably different Leah have also drawn comment, though most players seem fine with Leah's redesign — and nobody is complaining about the glow-up Clint received, especially given that the upcoming 1.7 update will finally make him a romance candidate alongside Sandy.

Despite the Elliott discourse, the broader reaction to the collab is warm — details like the autopetter visible in a cave chest and a card for the mayor's purple underpants signal genuine affection for the source material.
