Steam leak exposes achievements for Persona 6, Kingdom Hearts 4, Fable, and more

A major Steam API slip-up has made achievement lists for dozens of unannounced or unreleased games publicly visible, with Persona 6, Kingdom Hearts 4, and Fable among the highest-profile titles caught in the dump. The lists were scraped by Exophase, a cross-platform achievement tracker covering Steam, Epic Games Store, and others.

Exophase owner Mike Bendel, known online as x3sphere, explained the situation on ResetEra: "Seems like a possible screw-up on Valve's end, a bunch of games with achievements that should be private are accessible through the API right now, and that's why they got scanned into the site." He added that games without a proper name — showing only an AppID — started appearing in bulk over the span of about an hour, which is unusual. Many of the achievement lists use placeholder text and appear incomplete, but enough real content slipped through to cause damage. Kingdom Hearts 4 details about Disney-themed worlds have surfaced, and story spoilers for Persona 6 are already circulating. If you want to go into either game clean, muting relevant keywords now is a smart move.

This isn't the first time Valve has had a leak problem. Last month, a separate security breach resulted in 13TB of data on unreleased games and prototypes — covering titles uploaded to Steam between 2003 and 2013 — being made available for download. That dump included pre-release builds of Spore, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, and an early Portal 2 prototype. The back-to-back incidents put a spotlight on how Steam handles sensitive data for games still deep in development.

The community is already tearing through the achievement lists, and more details are likely to surface before Valve can fully lock things down. For now, Valve hasn't issued a public statement on the leak.
