Studio MDHR announced two new Cuphead games at the Summer Game Fest showcase. One is a hand-animated follow-up to the original 2017 sidescroller, keeping the same golden-age cartoon aesthetic. The other is an 8-bit action platformer called Mighty Cuphead Adventure — and that one comes with a genuinely unusual development story.
Mighty Cuphead Adventure is being coded in assembly language, built to the exact hardware specifications of the Sega Master System, the 8-bit console from the mid-1980s. The game will work on modern consoles and PC, but Studio MDHR confirmed that players who want the real thing can pick it up on a physical cartridge and run it on an actual Sega Master System. The approach mirrors the studio's philosophy with the main series — just as Cuphead uses hand-drawn 1930s-style animation to match its era, Mighty Cuphead Adventure uses authentic period programming techniques to match its.
Studio MDHR says more details on both games are coming "in the months ahead" — no release windows or full platform lists yet.
