The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth hits all-time Steam peak of 156,000 players thanks to $1.50 sale price

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth — the 2014 remake of Edmund McMillen's 2011 roguelike — is breaking its own Steam concurrent player records almost daily during the ongoing Steam Summer Sale. The game just crossed 156,000 simultaneous players in the last 24 hours, comfortably beating out Warframe, GTA V, and Delta Force on the charts.

The driving force is an absurd discount: Rebirth is down from $15 to just $1.50, and the full bundle with all DLC dropped from $50 to $5. Those prices have triggered a record-breaking cascade — 109,000 concurrent players on June 27, then 130,000 on June 29, then 153,000 on July 5, and now 156,000. For context, the game's previous all-time peak before this sale was around 70,000 players back in 2021, and its launch peak in 2014 was roughly 69,000. The Steam Summer Sale runs until July 9.

McMillen's other recent project almost certainly plays a role here too. Mewgenics — co-developed with Tyler Glaiel — hit 115,000 concurrent players on Steam back in February, introducing a fresh wave of players to McMillen's work. With Rebirth now sitting at a dollar-fifty, it's a natural next stop for anyone who came in through Mewgenics and wants more of that same chaotic, punishing design sensibility. Rebirth itself has been expanded significantly since 2014 through multiple DLC releases, including Afterbirth, Afterbirth+, and Repentance, giving new players a massive amount of content to dig into at almost no cost.

With the sale running through Thursday July 9, there's a real chance Rebirth sets yet another record before the discounts expire. The community is clearly energized — and at $1.50, the barrier to jumping in has basically disappeared.
