The Rolling Stones land in Roblox with a decade-spanning game and live finale

The Rolling Stones are coming to Roblox — a new game based on the band's 60-year history goes live today, July 10, with a grand finale event scheduled for July 17–19.

The game has players moving through different eras of the Stones' career, smashing crystals that contain pieces of the band's legacy. The crystals are inspired by the 2023 album Hackney Diamonds, and each decade is soundtracked by a classic Stones track from that period. Breaking the crystals charges up a giant tongue-and-lips logo, which unleashes what the press release calls "rock and roll energy" to unlock the next era. The whole thing builds toward a globally shared interactive performance that shifts based on how the community plays. On top of the game itself, Roblox has brought in 15 community creators — Jazzyx3, CASKA's HAUS, Touzled, Blizzei, DIONESS, morphist4u, WhoseTrade, Empyro, Bad_B0y, raekaro, Spiraxy, Valkenheim, DuckXander, Clockset, and dvdko — to redesign the iconic tongue-and-lips logo as exclusive cross-platform avatar accessories. There's also a limited-edition physical item available through an in-game Shopify integration that connects directly to the band's online store.

The Stones have never been shy about commerce — this is the band that essentially invented the stadium-tour industrial complex — but a Roblox tie-in is a different kind of move. Mick Jagger is 82, Keith Richards is 82, and Ronnie Wood is 79. Their catalog predates the parents of most Roblox players. Whether this is a genuine attempt to bring classic rock to a new generation or just a brand exercise that will leave both audiences mildly confused is a fair question. The Hackney Diamonds connection at least gives it a hook to something current, even if that album is already two years old.

PC Gamer's own coverage notes the collaboration with some skepticism — the observation that "nothing teens want to see more in their game than some 85-year-old men singing songs older than their parents" captures the vibe pretty well. Still, the finale runs July 17–19, and if the community participation mechanic actually delivers something surprising, it could be one of the stranger Roblox events in recent memory.
