The Super Mario Galaxy Movie hits Peacock on July 30

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is coming to Peacock on July 30, confirmed by a listing on the streaming service's own website. The film already dropped digitally in May and hit Blu-ray in mid-June, so this Peacock debut is the final step in its home-release rollout.

The movie opened in theaters on April 1 and became 2026's first — and so far only — film to cross $1 billion at the worldwide box office, sitting at over $429 million domestically and just over $1 billion globally at the time of writing. That's a massive haul, though it still falls short of the $1.3 billion the original Super Mario Bros. Movie pulled in back in 2023. The sequel follows Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Toad on a galaxy-spanning mission to rescue Rosalina from Bowser and Bowser Jr., and introduced Anya Taylor-Joy as Rosalina, Donald Glover as Yoshi, and Glenn Powell as Star Fox's Fox McCloud — a cameo that was kept secret until just before the premiere.

Critically, the film landed with a thud: it sits at 42% on Rotten Tomatoes, and IGN gave it a 6/10, citing a weak narrative core. Polygon called it "charming yet wholly empty," arguing the sequel leans on 40 years of Mario nostalgia and dazzling visuals to paper over a thin plot. Shigeru Miyamoto himself acknowledged the rough reception, saying he expected critics to be kinder this time around — "and it was even harsher than last time, which I found strange." Audiences were far more forgiving, giving it an 88% on Rotten Tomatoes' PopcornMeter, reigniting the perennial debate about how kids' movies should be judged.

The first Super Mario Bros. Movie is also on Peacock, so subscribers can do a back-to-back watch from July 30. Looking further ahead, Nintendo and Illumination are tentatively attached to a project on Universal's 2028 release calendar — rumors point to a Donkey Kong movie — while Jack Black has hinted he's already signed on for a third Mario. The next Nintendo film to actually hit theaters, though, will be the live-action Zelda movie produced with Sony Pictures, currently slated for April 30, 2027.
