Trigger teases Delicious in Dungeon season 2 and a new project from the Promare and Kill la Kill creators

Studio Trigger used Anime Expo 2026 to drop two pieces of news at once: a second season of Delicious in Dungeon is in the works, and a brand-new project is coming from the creative team behind Promare and Kill la Kill.

Delicious in Dungeon season 2 was teased at the event, continuing the story of Laios and his party's dungeon-crawling culinary adventures. The new Trigger original project comes from the studio's core creative duo — director Hiroyuki Imaishi and screenwriter Kazuki Nakashima, who together made Kill la Kill and Promare. No title, release window, or plot details were shared for the new project.

Trigger has built a reputation as one of anime's most kinetic and visually ambitious studios since spinning off from Gainax in 2011. Promare, their 2019 theatrical film, became a cult hit for its layered animation style and over-the-top action, while Kill la Kill remains one of the defining anime of the 2010s. Delicious in Dungeon, adapted from Ryoko Kui's manga, was produced by Trigger for Netflix and became one of the most acclaimed anime of 2024 — so a second season was widely anticipated by fans. Anime Expo 2026 also served as a major announcement hub for the industry, with reveals including a Solo Leveling theatrical film and MAPPA animating Persona 4 Revival's cutscenes.
