Ubisoft taps former 2K and Amazon boss Christoph Hartmann to lead its Tom Clancy creative house

Ubisoft has hired Christoph Hartmann — most recently head of Amazon Game Studios — to run Creative House 2, the internal division responsible for its Tom Clancy franchises. He starts immediately, with The Division, Ghost Recon, and Splinter Cell all falling under his watch.

Hartmann spent 14 years as president of Take-Two's 2K Games label before moving to Amazon, where he led Amazon Game Studios until leaving earlier this year when the company pivoted away from big-budget development. At Ubisoft, he'll also oversee March of Giants, the MOBA Ubisoft acquired from Amazon in 2025. Rainbow Six Siege sits outside his remit — it stays with Vantage Studios, formerly Creative House One. CEO Yves Guillemot called Hartmann "exactly the kind of leader we needed," praising his ability to "bring out the best in creative teams and build franchises that last." Hartmann, writing on LinkedIn, said his goal is simple: "create an environment where talented teams can do their best work and continue building games that players love."

Creative House 2 is one of five divisions that emerged from Ubisoft's recent internal restructuring, which the company has framed as a way to give its major franchise groups more focused leadership. Hartmann's appointment is a genuine get — nearly four decades of publishing and development experience across two of the industry's biggest operations. But Ubisoft's ongoing turbulence has also pushed out serious institutional talent in the same period: former Assassin's Creed franchise boss Marc-Alexis Côté, Assassin's Creed Hexe creative director Clint Hocking, and Hexe game director Benoit Richer have all departed recently.

The company closed studios in Winnipeg and Belgrade in June and laid off hundreds of staff. French outlet LesEchos reported at the time that further cuts to Ubisoft's American operations are expected, though those haven't materialized yet. Hartmann walking in the front door while experienced developers walk out the back remains the uncomfortable backdrop to this hire.
