Uwe Boll's Citizen Vigilante Is Getting an Official PS5 Game — and It Looks Exactly as Bad as You'd Expect

Uwe Boll's Citizen Vigilante — the anti-immigration revenge film that critics savaged and racists loved — is getting an official video game tie-in, launching on PS5 this month. The game is developed by German developer Daniel Wengenroth, operating under the studio name Polygon Art.

The game bills itself as a single-player, story-driven vigilante experience with "brutal, fast-paced action combat" and "gritty, violent gameplay with gore and dismemberment." Screenshots show basic first-person shooter gameplay with enemies that look closer to PS2-era models than anything current-gen. The trailer features Unreal Engine assets, rough lighting, and what appears to be a re-recorded imitation of Armie Hammer's dialogue from the film — Hammer himself does not appear to be in the game. Wengenroth has published over 20 titles to the PlayStation Store, including Forklift 2024 – The Simulation and a string of low-budget military shooters, many with AI-generated cover art. His solo Steam credit, Oil Refinery: The Simulation, currently holds "Mostly Negative" reviews.

The film it's based on stars Armie Hammer as a wealthy American businessman in Croatia who becomes a vigilante targeting migrants — a premise critics at Variety, Slate, and The Guardian called "morally bankrupt," "borderline snuff," and "cheap, incoherent and embarrassingly badly acted." It holds a 6% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes but a 93% audience score, boosted in part by Elon Musk making it free to watch on X for two days with Boll's blessing. That stunt landed the film on Prime Video's top 10 purchases and rentals. Boll himself was awarded the Razzie for Worst Career Achievement in 2009 for his long run of video game adaptations — BloodRayne, House of the Dead, Alone in the Dark, Far Cry — making a game adaptation of one of his films a genuinely strange reversal.

According to a Puck report, Hammer has since distanced himself from the movie — reportedly watching it for the first time and saying "Fuck. This is hateful, disgusting." How closely Boll was involved in the game adaptation is unclear, and IGN says it has reached out to Wengenroth for comment. The game is listed on the PlayStation Store and is due to launch next week.
