Valve confirms Team Fortress 2 Mann vs Machine update is still in progress

Valve has broken ten months of silence on the Team Fortress 2 Mann vs Machine update, posting a brief blog update to confirm the patch is still being worked on. The studio's message was short but direct: "We're still working on the MvM update."

Valve acknowledged the update is taking longer than expected, saying it's "taking a lot longer to sort through the new content and changes" than originally planned, but promised progress is being made and thanked players for their patience. The update was first announced in June last year, when Valve put out a community call for map and mission submissions ahead of a fictional deadline of August 27. That call generated far more submissions than Valve anticipated, as the studio noted in a September progress report — the last communication before this week's update. No release date has been given.

TF2 is a game that runs on Valve time, which means major updates are rare but impactful. The last big one landed in 2023 and pushed the game to an all-time player count high. In the meantime, the game still receives regular minor patches — earlier this month it got a community-focused update adding maps, cosmetics, and taunts, followed by a round of bug-fix hotfixes. Valve's famously flat company structure means staff move between projects based on interest and demand, and 2025 has kept the studio busy with the Steam Machine launch, the upcoming Steam Frame, and the ongoing development of Deadlock.

The TF2 community has been patient, but ten months of silence tested that patience. This update is unlikely to satisfy anyone hungry for a release date, but it at least confirms the MvM patch hasn't been quietly shelved.
