Warframe Iceblade of Narin Launches September 23 With Free Banshee, Rework, and a Six-Player Mode

Warframe's Iceblade of Narin update drops September 23, bringing a reworked Banshee, a new Warframe, a free login reward, and the groundwork for a massive late-2026 expansion into an entirely new solar system called Tau. Digital Extremes is packing a lot into the back half of the year.

Log in any time between September 23 and October 7 and you'll receive a free base Banshee Warframe plus a built Forma — no Mastery Rank requirement. The Banshee rework tightens up her kit with improved ability synergies, better survivability, and general quality-of-life improvements, keeping her signature role as a damage amplifier intact while making her more accessible. A new cosmetic line, the Banshee Threnodia Skin and Collection, accompanies the update with a gothic aesthetic. Then on October 15, a special event called Epoch Operation: Tau launches — it involves piloting a skyscraper-sized humanoid spaceship, which creative director Rebecca Ford describes as something she shows to non-Warframe players specifically to watch their reactions. Alongside that, Digital Extremes is introducing Glacial Defiance, a new six-player cooperative mode that Ford is careful not to call a raid.

Warframe's original raids, known as Trials, were retired in 2018 after design director Pablo Alonso cited the enormous maintenance burden and low player engagement. Ford acknowledges the history directly: "We had raids. They lived, they died, they're gone." Glacial Defiance is framed as an audition — the studio wants to know whether a six-player, more demanding mode has a social niche in 2026. Ford was candid about her personal motivation too, noting that her own friend group plays Deadlock together and has nowhere to go in Warframe because the current four-player cap leaves two people out. The broader context is that Warframe has become a landing spot for lapsed Destiny and Destiny 2 players, who arrive for the weapons and fast gameplay but sometimes find the endgame too easy to feel rewarding.

All of this feeds into the Tau solar system, a full new location arriving in late 2026 that Ford describes as the team's current north star. Iceblade of Narin and the Tau Operation are explicitly stepping stones toward that larger release. Ford summed up the studio's perpetual balancing act to Polygon: "The impossible task of anyone working on Warframe is choosing when to go new or choosing when to revisit." The free Banshee login window closes October 7, so players have two weeks from launch to claim her.
