Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine – Master Crafted Edition leaked for PS5 and Switch 2 via ESRB

An ESRB rating listing has outed Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine – Master Crafted Edition for PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2. The entry briefly showed both platforms alongside PC before the console references were quietly removed — a classic pre-announcement slip.

The Master Crafted Edition, developed by SneakyBox and published by Sega, launched on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox Game Pass in June 2024. It brought 4K resolution, modernized controls, an interface overhaul, improved character models, and remastered audio — including over 100 new voice lines for the Orks. The original Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine was a Relic Entertainment third-person shooter published by THQ back in 2011 for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.

The Master Crafted Edition had a rough debut. Steam players hammered it with "Mostly Negative" reviews at launch, citing the high price relative to the already well-regarded Anniversary Edition, questionable usability changes, and thin online multiplayer populations — leading many to call it a cash grab. Sega responded with an extended refund window on Steam, a 50% upgrade discount for Anniversary Edition owners, and a patch roadmap. Updates stopped in September 2024, and reviews have since crept up to "Mixed." The hope is that a PS5 and Switch 2 release comes bundled with a meaningful patch to address lingering issues.

The timing is interesting given how much goodwill the series has rebuilt — Space Marine 2 was one of 2024's biggest hits, and Space Marine 3 is already confirmed. A polished re-release of the original on new platforms makes sense as an on-ramp for players who discovered the franchise through the sequel.
