Ghost of Tsushima anime lands 2028 release window with Star Wars: Visions director attached

Crunchyroll has confirmed a 2028 release window for the Ghost of Tsushima anime adaptation, along with a wave of cast and crew announcements. The project is further along than the delay might suggest — there's real talent locked in. Takanobu Mizuno, director of the Star Wars: Visions short The Duel, is helming the series. Animation is being handled by Kamikaze Douga, the studio behind Batman: Ninja and several Star Wars: Visions shorts. The script comes from Gen Urobuchi, the writer behind Psycho-Pass, and Renji Oki of Azur Lane. On the voice cast side, Mayumi Saco — who voiced Tomoe in the original Ghost of Tsushima game — returns, joined by Shinya Fukumatsu, known for voicing Bomb in One-Punch Man. Keiji Inai is composing the music, Yoshikazu Iwanami handles sound direction, and Gyousyou Suzuki is contributing calligraphy work. Story details remain thin for now. Ghost of Tsushima launched on PS4 in 2020 and was later upgraded for PS5. Its sequel, Ghost of Yotei, came out in 2025 and received a Complete Edition that bundles in the Echoes of Sekigahara expansion and the Legends multiplayer mode. The anime sits inside a broader wave of video game adaptations — Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Bloodborne are both getting anime treatments, and Death Stranding is expanding with both an anime film and a separate series heading to Disney+. The 2028 window is a push from earlier expectations, but the crew lineup — especially Urobuchi on story and Mizuno directing — gives fans something concrete to be optimistic about. No trailer or episode count has been announced yet.
