IO Interactive unveiled a year one roadmap for 007 First Light at Summer Game Fest, and it's a solid slate: story DLC, a new gadget, New Game+, photo mode, and new TacSim challenges are all on the way. The studio called it the "year one" roadmap, leaving the door open for more content beyond that.
The story DLC puts Bawama — the pirate king warlord played by Lenny Kravitz — front and center, with a teaser trailer debuted at the show. Details are thin for now, and it's not yet clear whether this will be a paid expansion or a free update. Bawama's arc in the base game ends pretty abruptly, so revisiting him makes sense. Dates for the gadget and TacSim challenges weren't announced either.
007 First Light has reportedly sold over 2 million copies in its first week, backed by strong word of mouth and critical praise. IGN scored it 9/10, calling it "demonstrably obsessed with bringing the Bond fantasy to life in a way no game has ever managed before." IO Interactive already set up a sequel at the end of the game, and Amazon has confirmed it will handle publishing on future Bond titles — IO Interactive won't be self-publishing sequels.
How far this roadmap stretches will depend on player retention. IO Interactive has a strong track record of long-term support with Hitman, but First Light is a less inherently replayable game, so keeping the community engaged will be the real challenge.
