Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced treasure hunt cancelled after player stumbles on secret chest by accident

Ubisoft had a Community Treasure Hunt planned for Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced this week — but a player found the hidden chest before the studio even dropped a clue, forcing Ubisoft to scrap the whole reveal.

The player, Reddit user -Holliday, was in the middle of a naval contract when the map layout of a random area caught their eye. They dropped anchor, jumped in, and immediately spotted air bubbles rising from the ocean floor. At the bottom sat a chest containing the Explorer Outfit — a design from the original Black Flag that many players assumed hadn't made it into the remake at all. -Holliday described being "briefly shaken with excitement" on discovering it, knowing it was highly sought after. Ubisoft had planned to post a riddle clue on Friday to guide the community to it, but with the secret already out, that plan was quietly shelved. The official Assassin's Creed account took it well on Twitter/X: "You guys are too good 🤣 We were going to reveal a clue for this community chest on Friday but your treasure hunting skills are too great. Hats off!" For anyone who wants the Explorer Outfit now, the coordinates are 28 x 292. A second community chest has also been found — a rapier and figurehead combo sitting at 500 x 168.

Black Flag Resynced is a full remake of the 2013 open-world pirate adventure, following Edward Kenway across the Caribbean during the Golden Age of Piracy. IGN scored it 9/10, calling it more than just a visual upgrade and praising how it brings one of the series' best entries up to modern standards. The game's ocean is vast enough that stumbling onto a deliberately hidden chest without any clues is, by any measure, a remarkable fluke.

The community reaction has been overwhelmingly positive — part amusement, part pride that a player cracked Ubisoft's puzzle before it was even posed. It also confirms that Ubisoft is seeding more hidden rewards across the map, so dedicated explorers have good reason to keep diving.
