Baldur's Gate 3 joins Xbox Play Anywhere — buy once, play on Xbox and PC

Three years after launch, Baldur's Gate 3 now supports Xbox Play Anywhere, meaning a single digital purchase covers both Xbox consoles and PC via the Xbox app — no double-dipping required. The timing lines up with the game's third anniversary, and Larian is marking the occasion with a 30% discount across multiple platforms.

The feature is exactly what it sounds like: if you own the game digitally on Xbox, you can pick it up on PC or a supported handheld like the ROG Xbox Ally X without losing your save progress. That seamless switching between devices is the core appeal — start a fight on the couch, finish it at your desk. Xbox fans had actually spotted this coming last fall, when Microsoft accidentally listed Play Anywhere support in the Xbox Store before any official announcement.

Baldur's Gate 3 is one of the biggest third-party titles to join the program. The Play Anywhere catalog has been growing steadily and already includes Doom: The Dark Ages, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and The Outer Worlds 2, but last month's additions — PGA Tour 2K25 and Buckshot Roulette — were underwhelming by comparison. Larian itself has moved on from the game and is now developing Divinity, its next project, but the Baldur's Gate 3 universe keeps expanding through other hands: a prequel novel called Baldur's Gate 3: Astarion, written by bestselling fantasy author T. Kingfisher, is in the works, and HBO has announced a TV series from Chernobyl and The Last of Us co-creator Craig Mazin that picks up the story after the game's events.

Details on the HBO series remain scarce since the initial announcement, with no cast or release window confirmed yet. For now, the Play Anywhere launch and the anniversary sale give both returning players and newcomers a solid reason to jump back into Faerûn.
