Destiny 2 fans built a browser game to throw tomatoes at ex-Bungie CEO Pete Parsons and his cars

A parody browser game called Pete Carsons: The Vault of Cars launched on July 7 — Bungie Day — letting players hurl tomatoes at a caricature of former Bungie CEO Pete Parsons and his infamous car collection. It's a direct response to the end of Destiny 2 support and the mass layoffs that followed.

The game is built around a boss encounter that riffs on Destiny's first-ever raid, The Vault of Glass. Players fling tomatoes at a parade of classic cars with names like Crunch Enforcer, Micro Management, and Bankruptcy Expert to stack a Contaminated Fuel buff, then work through a parody of the Vault of Glass Oracles puzzle before fighting off Investor adds and finally unloading on Parsons himself — rendered as a South Park-style Canadian PNG with the title Destroyer of Guardians. The parody account Pete Carsons on X even ran a World's First competition, asking players to submit video proof of a full clear. About two hours after launch, the account announced submissions were in and under review — though there's no raid belt waiting for the winner.

The timing is pointed. July 7 is historically Bungie Day, a date the studio used to celebrate its own legacy. This year the mood was anything but festive: nearly 300 workers were laid off at Bungie last month, with most of the Destiny 2 team among those cut. Parsons himself left the company in 2025 after reports emerged that he had spent millions on classic cars following Sony's $3.6 billion acquisition of Bungie in 2022, even as employees were being laid off in waves. The remaining Destiny 2 skeleton crew has been candid on social media that they can't guarantee fixes for every outstanding issue.

The community reaction has been exactly what you'd expect — cathartic. The game is best played on a monitor rather than a phone, according to Kotaku. Whether it closes the chapter on Destiny 2's messy ending is another question, but for one Bungie Day at least, players had somewhere to put their frustration.
