Disney Lorcana Attack of the Vine! First Impressions: Combo Shifts, Hunny Decks, and Pixar Debuts

Disney Lorcana's thirteenth set, Attack of the Vine!, hits pre-release events on July 17th and wide release on July 24th. Three years into the TCG's life, the set digs deep into the Pixar library and brings dual-color cards back in a meaningful way.

The headline mechanic is Combo Shift, tied to a new Team classification that pairs two characters into a single powerful card. Sulley & Boo and Dash & Violet Parr — the Incredibles siblings — are the showcased examples. Combo Shift lets a card be played on either named character or both simultaneously, and the abilities scale with how many characters sit underneath the team card. Dash & Violet draw a card for each character under them whenever they quest or challenge; Sulley & Boo can return their component characters to the field for free if banished after a full combo shift. Playing onto both characters delivers the most value, but it costs board width, and most team cards are dual-ink, so they'll only slot into specific deck builds.

The Hunny classification — home to Winnie the Pooh and the Hundred Acre Wood crew — also gets a serious expansion. Previously only one card carried the Hunny tag; Attack of the Vine! builds an actual archetype around it. Christopher Robin Hunny Sage bends one of Lorcana's core deckbuilding rules by letting players include cards of ink colors outside their deck's usual two, opening the door to ruby Tigger Hunny Barbarian or emerald Gopher Hunny Cook alongside an amethyst/sapphire base. The Magical Hunny Staff goes further, granting any character the Hunny classification on demand. The Floodborn classification also picks up support this set, even though the vine theming might suggest otherwise.

Pixar characters making their Lorcana debut include figures from Monsters, Inc., Turning Red, and Up. The set leans into supporting existing classifications and expanding shift variety rather than piling on new keywords, which should make the new cards easier to slot into established strategies. How the Combo Shift team-ups reshape the competitive meta — given their dual-ink restrictions and board-narrowing tradeoffs — is the big question heading into the July release.
