Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Story Expansion Pass leaks on Epic Games Store backend

A cluster of listings buried in the Epic Games Store backend has revealed that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation — the concluding chapter of Square Enix's remake trilogy — appears to be getting a Story Expansion Pass alongside up to nine separate DLC packs. The leak surfaced via EpicDB, and while Square Enix hasn't confirmed anything, the specifically labelled "Story Expansion Pass" entry is hard to dismiss as a simple placeholder.

The listings include references to a premium edition, pre-order bonus bundles, and the DLC packs themselves, though what those packs actually contain is unknown. They could be anything from costumes and item accessories to full story chapters. Director Naoki Hamaguchi gave GameSpot a hint at Summer Game Fest last month: "We have had a lot of voices from fans wanting to explore the stories, or side stories, of other characters and other parts of the story as well. That is something that is interesting." He's also said previously that DLC beyond the trilogy would depend on fan demand, calling it something the team would "certainly be open to exploring" if support was strong enough.

This would be a first for the remake trilogy in its current form. Final Fantasy 7 Remake got Episode Intermission — a Yuffie-focused story chapter that shipped with the PS5 Intergrade upgrade — but Rebirth received nothing beyond minor bonus items like the Magic Pot summon Materia and the Reclaimant Choker accessory. Hamaguchi explained at the time that rushing DLC for Rebirth would have delayed Revelation itself. With no fourth game to sprint toward, the team apparently has breathing room. Revelation is also the first entry in the trilogy launching day-one on PS5, PC, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2 simultaneously, which broadens the potential audience for any post-launch content considerably.

Fans are already speculating hard about what a story expansion could cover — Advent Children, Dirge of Cerberus, and Crisis Core antagonist Genesis are all being floated as possibilities. Revelation is set to launch in the first half of 2027, so an official announcement on the DLC front is likely still some way off.
