G.I. Joe and Tomb Raider Are Getting a Five-Issue Comic Crossover in October

Skybound has announced G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero/Tomb Raider, a five-issue limited series launching October 7, 2026. Lara Croft already made a surprise cameo in G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #330, which sets up the crossover directly.

The series is written by Kyle Higgins, known for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, with art by Elena Casagrande, who previously worked on Black Widow. Alex Guimarães handles colors and Pat Brosseau letters. The story sends Lara Croft alongside Shipwreck and a squad of Joes to Cobra Island in pursuit of a long-lost treasure — with The Baroness and Destro racing to claim it first. Higgins described the premise as having obvious appeal: "Lost artifact, a Destro plot, and a joint infiltration mission to Cobra Island." He also teased deep cuts for longtime G.I. Joe fans. Casagrande called Lara Croft "one of the top myths in my life" and said she's excited to show more pages. On top of the comic, Hasbro is adding a Lara Croft figure to its G.I. Joe Classified action figure line.

2026 has shaped up to be a banner year for unexpected comic crossovers — Batman/Superman/Weird Al: World's Weirdest and Judge Dredd/Biker Mice From Mars were also recently announced. G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero has been running continuously under Skybound since IDW's long tenure with the license ended, while Tomb Raider's comic presence has historically been tied to Dark Horse and later Dark Horse again under Crystal Dynamics' stewardship of the franchise.

Preorders for issue #1 are open now at local comic shops ahead of the October 7 release date.
