K-Pop Idol Stories: Road to Debut, the PS5 management title from Indonesian studio Wisageni Games, puts you in charge of shepherding a trainee group all the way to their first public performance. It looks like a tycoon game on the surface, but in practice it sits much closer to a visual novel with management decisions sprinkled in.

You pick a concept for your group — the reviewer went with "cute", leaning into choreography and charm — then recruit from a small pool of wannabe idols. Day-to-day play means assigning trainees to activities like dance or vocal lessons, but RNG governs the outcomes heavily: trainees regularly show up tired or distracted and miss out on the full stat gains. Balancing training with recreational activities like shopping and coffee breaks is essential to keep energy and happiness up. Auditions for TV and film roles exist but often carry 10% or lower success rates, which the reviewer found discouraging enough to skip in favour of safer stat-building. Money management also becomes a pressure point late on — overspending on pre-debut fame-building can force you into taking out a loan. The game ends more or less once your group debuts, but the road there throws real curveballs: stalkers, injuries, and anxiety all demand tough calls.

Wisageni Games is a smaller Indonesian studio, and Road to Debut is a niche title targeting the overlap between K-pop fans and sim-game players — a combination that doesn't have many direct competitors. The setting is WG Entertainment, an obvious nod to real-life label SM Entertainment. The game's soundtrack draws from 2nd and 3rd generation K-pop sounds and holds up well across repeated loops, and the manhwa-inspired art style is clean and colourful. The UI manages to pack a lot of information on screen without feeling cluttered.
