Over 600 Cut Voice Lines From Resident Evil 4 Remake Leaked, Including a Direct Nod to Village

Modder Keff0 has leaked 671 unused voice lines from Resident Evil 4 Remake, totalling over 30 minutes of fully recorded dialogue — and one of them reveals Capcom planned a direct link to Resident Evil Village.

The lines were found on the game's PS5 launch disc and are absent from the PC version. They feature dialogue from Leon, Ashley, Luis, and the Merchant. The standout cut line belongs to the Merchant, who says: "Ah, I see you're no stranger to villages. The Duke? Lad shows promise" — a clear reference to Village's rotund merchant character, The Duke. The connection runs both ways: in Village, The Duke already references the RE4 Merchant with the line "'What're ya buyin'?' Haha, just something an old friend of mine used to say." Had Capcom kept the Merchant's line in RE4 Remake, it would have made that mutual nod explicit and added a retroactive thread of continuity between the two games. Keff0 also found unused death animations for the Merchant, along with save data indicating his shop would permanently close if players killed him — a mechanic closer to the original 2005 game that Capcom apparently decided was too punishing for the remake.

Keff0 is no stranger to digging into RE4 Remake's cut content — the same modder previously restored the game's scrapped Chapter 0 and made it playable. Resident Evil 4 Remake launched in 2023 to widespread acclaim, and Capcom has a long history of cutting substantial content before shipping — earlier this year, Leon's voice actor revealed that his favorite line from Resident Evil Requiem was also axed.

With Code Veronica Remake due in 2027 and a live-action Resident Evil film directed by Zach Cregger hitting theaters this month, the franchise is as busy as ever — and leaks like this keep the community digging deeper into what almost made it into the games.
