Resident Evil voice actor Craig Burnatowski dropped from convention after abuse allegations

Craig Burnatowski, the voice of Albert Wesker in the Resident Evil 4 remake and new villain Zeno in Resident Evil Requiem, has been removed from Fantasy & Magic Con in Warsaw after a woman publicly accused him of abuse. The convention was scheduled for this weekend and included signings and Resident Evil panels.

Monica Denizen, a streamer and artist who says she dated Burnatowski for a year, posted the allegations on social media on July 8. She claims he was mentally, emotionally abusive and manipulative, and that he physically harmed her twice during intimacy — one injury still hasn't healed and she is seeing a surgical specialist. "It's been four months since I ended this relationship and I am going public with this," Denizen wrote. "I do so knowing that I may receive backlash and threats, but I won't keep silent and protect my abuser." She followed up with a second post on Instagram going into further detail about the alleged abuse.

Fantasy & Magic Con initially said it would be "inappropriate to make any premature decisions before establishing the facts," but reversed course the following day and announced Burnatowski's appearance is cancelled. The organizers stated the decision was made to ensure the event remains a place where "all attendees, guests, and partners can feel comfortable and safe." Autograph and photo op tickets will be refunded automatically; the previously planned Resident Evil group photo op will now run as a four-person photo op instead.

Burnatowski has since posted a statement on Instagram denying the allegations. Kotaku reached out to both him and Capcom for comment. The timing adds a layer of industry significance — Wesker is expected to appear in the upcoming Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake, though Burnatowski has not been publicly confirmed for that project. Whether Capcom responds or makes any casting decisions remains to be seen.
