Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch'd and Pichu is coming to Disney+ in 2027

The Pokémon Company International and Aardman Animations are bringing their stop-motion collaboration Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch'd and Pichu exclusively to Disney+ and DisneyXD. The announcement came during PokémonXP, the first-ever fan convention dedicated entirely to Pokémon.

Set in the Galar region, the series follows Sirfetch'd and Pichu on a quest to help and protect Pokémon — missions that, according to the official logline, rarely go as planned. Escavalier is confirmed as the main antagonist, described by Aardman as "a knight that could challenge and compete against" Sirfetch'd. The behind-the-scenes panel at PokémonXP revealed the sheer scale of production: 262 people working on the project at any given time, each animator producing roughly 13.5 seconds of footage per week, with individual episodes taking 110 weeks to complete and three episodes in production simultaneously. A first trailer and early animation tests for both lead characters were shown at the event. Aardman's James Young said: "What I love is the personalities we're giving to all these characters. I'm really excited for the Pokémon family, and for all of you and to see how you like them."

Aardman is the British studio behind Wallace and Gromit and Shaun the Sheep, so the pairing with Pokémon makes a certain kind of sense — both franchises lean into broad physical comedy and expressive character animation. The Disney+ exclusivity is a notable shift from the brand's previous stop-motion venture, Pokémon Concierge, which streams on Netflix and was confirmed for a second season in 2025, due on Netflix this September. Having two stop-motion Pokémon series on competing platforms simultaneously is an unusual position for The Pokémon Company to be in.
