Thick as Thieves is done getting updates, but OtherSide is keeping it playable

OtherSide Entertainment has confirmed that Thick as Thieves — the stealth co-op immersive sim that launched in May — will receive no further content updates. Game director Jeff Hickman posted a message confirming the studio is down to fewer than 10 employees after two rounds of layoffs, leaving ongoing development impossible.

Hickman was direct about it: "To be frank, this is not the outcome that any of us want, but we're facing the reality that ongoing development of extra content, modes and systems is not a viable path." The other project OtherSide had in development was also cancelled, compounding the studio's situation. On the positive side, OtherSide and publisher Megabit are working to keep the game functional by migrating co-op from dedicated cloud servers to peer-to-peer. Solo play is unaffected, and once the transition is complete, Megabit will take over maintenance and handle bug reports going forward.

Thick as Thieves had a rough road from the start. Originally pitched as a PvPvE multiplayer immersive sim where players competed for the same loot, it was quietly downgraded to solo and co-op only before launch — a significant departure from its original concept. It shipped in May with only two maps, no rebindable keys, and a $5 price tag that, rather than attracting players, seemed to signal something was wrong. The first post-launch update added rebindable keys, but it wasn't enough to turn things around.

The community reaction is understandably muted — this is effectively the end of the road for a game that never quite found its footing. The peer-to-peer migration at least means players who did enjoy it won't suddenly lose access, which is more than many shuttered live-service games can say.
