Warframe's Iceblade of Narin update bridges old and new with the game's first Ice frame since Frost

Digital Extremes is launching Iceblade of Narin, a new Warframe update that returns players to Yuvan Peak — the snowy mountain from The War Within — and introduces Narin, the first Ice-themed Warframe since Frost, who has been in the game since 2013.

Community Director Megan Everett says the timing felt overdue. "Frost being literally one of the OG Warframes, dating back to 2013, he's old," she tells PCGamesN. "As we go into our 13th year of development, it really felt overdue — you're like 'oh my God, he's really the only true Ice frame.'" Where Frost is defined by snowballs, snow globes, and avalanches, Narin takes a different angle entirely — she's built around the spirit of an ice crane, wields an ice rapier, dances through combat, and can briefly fly. Everett describes her as "a more romantic and beautiful twist on ice." The update also benefits from technology that simply didn't exist when Frost launched: Narin has actual snow and ice texture on her model, something DE couldn't pull off over a decade ago. Everett frames Narin as a showcase of how the studio's design philosophy has matured — moving from the literal, functional approach of 2013 frames toward something more poetic and visually ambitious.

Warframe has been running since 2013 and is heading into what Digital Extremes is calling a new era, anchored by the upcoming Tau update. Iceblade of Narin is positioned as a bridge between the familiar Origin System and that next chapter — giving the team room to revisit the Ice theme while also delivering nostalgia through the return to Yuvan Peak. The game has always leaned into elemental pairings across its roster, with male and female variants sharing a theme but playing differently, and Narin slots into that tradition while pushing it further.

Everett is clear that Frost isn't going anywhere — "everyone loves Frost and they'll still play Frost" — but Narin gives players a second option within the same element, one that reflects where DE is now rather than where it started. With Tau still on the horizon, Iceblade of Narin looks like DE's way of honoring Warframe's history before steering hard into its future.
