Arknights: Endfield Version 1.4 brings upgraded PSSR to PS5 Pro alongside massive content update

Arknights: Endfield is adding upgraded PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution support on PS5 Pro with the Version 1.4 update, Companionship Celebration: Homecoming — the game's biggest content drop since launch. The upgrade delivers sharper image quality, better temporal stability, and more consistent frame rates at 4K resolution across exploration, combat, and story scenes.

Hypergryph CTO David Gu says integrating the upgraded PSSR required minimal engineering effort while meaningfully improving visual consistency across a wide range of gameplay scenarios. On the visual side, character outfits and material textures appear noticeably sharper, stylized environments hold their detail during fast movement, and vegetation, industrial facilities, and wildlife all maintain stable, crisp definition. Two new operators arrive with 1.4: Arcane, a Nature Caster focused on Corrosion and crowd control who strengthens Nature-based team compositions, and Liino, an Electric Supporter with healing and amplification abilities and an idol-inspired aesthetic. The story continues with Chapter 3: Acts 1 and 2, wrapping up the Wuling storyline across two new regions — Yinglung Pass and the North Wuling Exclusion Zone — each with unique environmental mechanics and culminating in a boss fight against Alleikhreos. Version 1.4 also adds three new modes: Echoes of War, a permanent seasonal challenge mode with exclusive title rewards; The Rooted Realm, a roguelike mode with progressively unlocked stages; and Heat Rage! Mega Arena!, a limited-time co-op challenge where only two operators can be deployed. The AIC Factory gets a new Gas production chain, and new progression systems include Story Skip for new players and Birthday rewards.

Arknights: Endfield is the 3D action RPG spin-off of Hypergryph's long-running tower defense mobile game Arknights, set on the planet Talos-II. The base game launched earlier this year and has been building out its content cadence with regular updates. PS5 Pro's PSSR upscaling technology is Sony's answer to DLSS and FSR, and developer adoption has been growing steadily since the console launched in late 2024 — Hypergryph's note that the integration required little engineering effort aligns with what other studios have reported about the feature.

Version 1.4 also brings Half-Anniversary rewards, making it a significant milestone for the game's early playerbase. With a roguelike mode, co-op challenge, and expanded factory systems all landing simultaneously, this update is clearly aimed at both retaining existing players and lowering the barrier for newcomers through the new Story Skip feature.
