Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced sea shanties are now streaming on Spotify and more

Ubisoft has put the full Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced soundtrack up on streaming platforms ahead of the game's July 9 launch — and yes, The Wellerman is in there. The collection spans 57 tracks across Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, Deezer, Qobuz, and Tidal.

The album includes all the original shanties from the 2013 game, brand-new compositions written for Resynced, and a previously unreleased rendition of The Parting Glass performed by Sarah Greene. The original Black Flag's shanties were scattered across the game world as glowing sheet music pickups — Edward Kenway's crew would only sing them once players tracked each one down through parkour-heavy sequences. There was even a companion app that synced with the game and downloaded the tracks to your phone, though that app has been dead for years.

The Black Flag soundtrack has a genuinely interesting production history. Ubisoft brought in musician and professor David Gossage to produce the in-game music, recorded in Montreal with contemporary folk singers who were specifically coached to sound like rough sailors rather than a polished choir. That soundtrack landed in 2013 — years before ShantyTok made sea shanties a viral phenomenon on TikTok around 2021, when Scottish musician Nathan Evans' cover of The Wellerman blew up and sparked a wave of collaborative performances across the platform.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced launches July 9 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The Standard Edition runs $60, the Digital Deluxe is $70, and a Collector's Edition is priced at $200. Fan reaction to the remake's changes has been mixed so far, but the return of the shanties in full seems to be one thing most people can agree on.
