Deltarune patch sneaks in hidden dialogue connecting Shadow Crystals, Eggs, and FRIEND

A routine Deltarune patch dropped today, mostly bug fixes and minor text tweaks — but buried in the notes was one line that sent the community into a spiral: "The shop in the Cliffs has new dialogue in an extremely obscure circumstance." That circumstance turns out to be anything but minor.

Chapter 5's Egg is in the wheat field — one stubborn sheaf won't go down no matter how many times you cut it; keep going until a balloon appears, then follow it. Third, and most cryptically: interact with FRIEND.

FRIEND is one of Deltarune's deepest unsolved mysteries. The creature has been known to the community but has received almost no acknowledgment from the game itself — players have debated whether it's a joke, an easter egg, or something far more significant, potentially even the true villain of the story. This new shop dialogue is reportedly the first time the game has directly connected FRIEND to the Shadow Crystals and the Eggs in the same breath, which is why the discovery hit so hard.
