Jacksepticeye says 80% of reactions to his Bloodborne movie role were critical

YouTuber and producer Jacksepticeye says the majority of fan reactions to his involvement in Sony's upcoming animated Bloodborne film were skeptical — and he gets it. Speaking in an interview with 100 Questions with Tom Simmons, the content creator addressed the backlash head-on and offered new details about what the project actually is.

Jacksepticeye, real name Seán McLoughlin, says roughly 80% of responses to his producer credit were critical, though he's careful not to call them outright negative. "I would be the same if someone took my beloved IP, that's my favorite, and then some YouTuber's attached to it. It would just make you scratch your head a little bit," he said. He also pushed back on any fears about the project's direction, saying he has "quite a bit" of sway over production decisions — greenlighting hires, vetting collaborators, and acting as what he calls the "vibe-checker" to make sure nobody without genuine Bloodborne knowledge gets near the thing. "People listen to me above most anyone else," he said of calls about the project.

Sony announced the R-rated animated Bloodborne film at CinemaCon 2026 in April, with PlayStation Productions and Lyrical Animation attached alongside Jacksepticeye. The reveal landed with mixed energy — fans have wanted more Bloodborne for years, but an animated movie produced by a YouTuber wasn't exactly what most had in mind. Bloodborne, the 2015 FromSoftware action-RPG set in a Lovecraftian gothic city, has never received a sequel or remaster despite years of fan demand, making any new content in that universe a sensitive topic.

Crucially, Jacksepticeye confirmed the film won't retell the game's story. "I'm not trying to one-up the game, and I'm not trying to compete with it, or tell the same story," he said. "I'm trying to honor the universe that's there and tell as good a story as I can within it." No release date has been announced yet.
