Larian distances itself from Karlach comic after Dark Horse tags the studio

Dark Horse Comics announced an untitled comic series starring Karlach, the beloved Baldur's Gate 3 companion, and accidentally sparked confusion by tagging Larian Studios in the post alongside Wizards of the Coast — as if the developer were involved in the project.

Larian's official account moved quickly to shut that down. "Maximum hijinks are happening right now, but we're not involved in any BG3 related projects," the studio wrote on X, attaching a photo of CEO Swen Vincke and writing lead Adam Smith doing what looks like a script read-through. The post added that once they're done with whatever that is, they'll have more to say about Divinity — Larian's next game, set in its own Rivellon fantasy world rather than the Forgotten Realms.

This isn't the first time Larian has had to clarify its position. Ever since the studio announced it wouldn't be making Baldur's Gate 4, speculation has swirled that the split with Wizards of the Coast was contentious. Vincke has consistently pushed back on that, saying the parting was amicable and that the team was simply creatively exhausted from working in someone else's setting. Still, the speed and sharpness of this latest clarification is hard to miss — at least one commenter had already assumed Larian's writing team was collaborating on the comic before the studio stepped in.

The Karlach comic itself is still coming, just without Larian's hand in it. Meanwhile, the studio's attention is firmly on Divinity, and fans are watching closely for whatever Vincke and Smith were apparently working on in that photo.
