Marvel's Wolverine Ain't No Hero trailer confirms Lady Deathstrike and gets flooded by disc outrage

Insomniac Games and PlayStation dropped a new cinematic trailer for Marvel's Wolverine on July 16 — titled Ain't No Hero — confirming Lady Deathstrike as a villain and giving fans their clearest look yet at the game's tone ahead of its September 15 PS5 launch.

The trailer follows Wolverine through a voiceover about his long life blurring together, cutting between him tearing through enemies on rainy city streets, atop a train, and in a snowy wilderness. He's clutching a photograph throughout — one that appears to show him alongside Jean Grey — but Lady Deathstrike destroys it by the end, marking her as a key antagonist. Sabretooth also appears, charging to Logan's side in a matching yellow suit, teasing a team-up. The confirmed villain roster now includes Lady Deathstrike, Sabretooth, Omega Red, and Mystique, with Sentinels also spotted as a threat. Jean Grey is confirmed on the X-Men side. The official game description reads: "Unleash the rage, confront the past. With the fate of humans and mutants hanging in the balance, Logan knows the world needs a hero; however, they'll have to settle for Wolverine." Insomniac also confirmed the trailer will play before select US screenings of The Odyssey.

Marvel's Wolverine is one of Insomniac's most anticipated projects — the studio behind Marvel's Spider-Man and its sequel, both PS5 exclusives that set a high bar for Marvel action games. Lady Deathstrike is a natural fit for the roster: like Logan, she has adamantium bonded to her skeleton and fights with long metal finger claws, making her one of his most personal comic book rivals. The game is confirmed to ship with a disc in the box, which has taken on extra significance given Sony's recent announcement that it will end physical disc production in January 2028.

That disc news has completely hijacked the trailer's comment sections. The top YouTube comment — with over 10,000 likes within a day — reads "You know who isn't the hero? The killer of physical." Another cracked: "Wolverine was really getting PHYSICAL in this trailer, he has such a DISCtinct presence." On X, the most-liked reply to Insomniac's post is a gif of a disc. Fans have also noted the irony of Wolverine fighting desperately to preserve a physical photograph. The backlash isn't isolated to this trailer — recent PlayStation posts for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls and PowerWash Simulator have met the same wave of disc-related anger.
