Three open-world games to play before Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced launches in July

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC this July — a full remake of the beloved 2013 pirate adventure. While the wait stretches on, three open-world games from other studios are worth diving into right now.

Crimson Desert, Pearl Abyss's medieval action RPG that launched in March 2026 after seven years in development, is the freshest pick. It crossed 5 million units sold by mid-April, a remarkable number for a new IP. Free updates have kept arriving since launch, and paid DLC is confirmed — just without a release date yet. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is the second recommendation — Warhorse Studios' grounded medieval RPG earned serious praise in 2025, with Polygon calling it the best RPG they'd ever played. You play as Henry of Skalitz, an ordinary man navigating brutal, consequence-heavy combat and a richly detailed world that rewards patience and roleplay. Third on the list is Dragon's Dogma 2, Capcom's 2024 action RPG and long-awaited follow-up to the 2012 cult classic. The franchise spent years dormant outside Japan before Capcom revived it, and the sequel has since found a much wider audience — a Nintendo Switch 2 port is also on the way.

All three games share the sprawling, exploration-driven design that makes Black Flag Resynced so anticipated. Each offers dozens of hours of content across very different settings — high fantasy, grounded medieval Europe, and dark fantasy — so there's something here regardless of what draws you to the Caribbean adventure.
