Baldur's Gate 3 mod adds a whole new region between Act 2 and Act 3

A major fan-made expansion for Baldur's Gate 3 has entered beta after more than a year since its first teaser. The Act Two Expansion mod, created by SquallyDaBeanz, inserts a brand-new region called the Chionthar Wilds between the end of Act 2 and the start of Act 3 — no separate save required. The Chionthar Wilds slot in right after you leave the Shadow-Cursed Lands, triggered by crossing the bridge near the Road to Baldur's Gate waypoint. The region is designed to match the scale of the Act 1 Wilderness and is balanced for parties at levels eight through ten, with a focus on exploration and combat. You can still backtrack to the Shadow-Cursed Lands after entering, but the expansion eventually hits a point of no return that pushes you into Act 3 — the game warns you before it happens. SquallyDaBeanz flags that beta bugs can cause softlocks, especially around the Act 3 transition, so frequent saves are strongly recommended. Finishing any outstanding camp events before the expansion's finale is also advised. Baldur's Gate 3 already has one of the most active modding communities in PC gaming, and large-scale content expansions like this one have become increasingly ambitious since Larian Studios released official modding tools. This mod doesn't attempt to replicate the game's famously reactive, choice-driven design — its quests and encounters follow a more linear structure — but it still adds a substantial chunk of new content to a playthrough. The planned 1.0 release aims to expand and polish what's already there, with improved writing, finished cutscenes, new class and race-specific dialogue, combat improvements, boss reworks, additional Legendary Actions, and bug fixes. The mod is available now on Nexus Mods for anyone who wants to jump into the beta.
